MBA CET Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme 2027: Sections, Questions and Syllabus
By Satya Raj|23 October 2026

If you are preparing for MBA admissions in Maharashtra, the first thing to understand is the MBA CET exam pattern.
The MBA CET (officially the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test for MBA/MMS, also called MAH-CET or the MAH MBA/MMS CET) is conducted by the State CET Cell, Maharashtra. Its scores are accepted by top management institutes across the state, including JBIMS, Sydenham and PUMBA.
This guide explains the MBA CET exam pattern 2027 in plain language: how many questions there are, how each section is weighted, how the marking scheme works, what is in the syllabus and how to use all of this to plan your preparation.
Always confirm the latest details on the official CET Cell notification before you rely on them, because exam authorities can change a pattern between cycles.
MBA CET Exam Pattern 2027 at a Glance
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Exam name | Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MBA/MMS), MBA CET (MAH-CET) |
| Conducted by | State CET Cell, Maharashtra |
| Mode | Computer-based test (CBT) |
| Total questions | 200 MCQs |
| Duration | 150 minutes |
| Marking scheme | +1 for each correct answer |
| Negative marking | None |
| Total marks | 200 |
Two numbers decide how you should prepare: 200 questions and 150 minutes. That is an average of 45 seconds per question, which makes the MBA CET a test of speed, selection and accuracy more than of deep concepts.
MBA CET Section-Wise Pattern (MAH-CET)
The MBA CET (MAH-CET) has four sections.
| Section | Questions | Share of the paper |
|---|---|---|
| Logical Reasoning | 75 | 37.5% |
| Abstract Reasoning | 25 | 12.5% |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 50 | 25% |
| Verbal Ability / Reading Comprehension | 50 | 25% |
| Total | 200 | 100% |
What This Means for Your Preparation
- Logical Reasoning is the biggest section. With 75 of the 200 questions, it carries more than a third of the paper. A strong Logical Reasoning score is the most efficient way to raise your overall MBA CET percentile.
- Abstract Reasoning is small but quick. Its 25 questions are pattern-based, so once you know the question types, they can be fast marks.
- Quant and Verbal are equal in weight. Each has 50 questions. Many students are stronger in one than the other, so a balanced preparation protects your total.
Together, the two reasoning sections make up 100 of the 200 questions, which is half the paper.
A Rough Time Split
You will decide your own section order and timing during mocks, but it helps to know what an even split looks like. If you divide the 150 minutes in proportion to the number of questions, you get:
| Section | Approximate time |
|---|---|
| Logical Reasoning | about 56 minutes |
| Abstract Reasoning | about 19 minutes |
| Quantitative Aptitude | about 37 to 38 minutes |
| Verbal Ability / Reading Comprehension | about 37 to 38 minutes |
This is only a starting point. Reading comprehension passages take longer than a single Quant question, and a quick pattern question takes less. Use your MBA CET mock tests to find the split that works for you. Check the official instructions for how the paper is presented on exam day.
MBA CET Marking Scheme: No Negative Marking
The MBA CET marking scheme is simple.
- +1 mark for each correct answer.
- No marks are deducted for a wrong answer.
- Unanswered questions score zero.
You can calculate your raw score with the free MBA CET score calculator.
Why No Negative Marking Changes Your Strategy
This is the biggest difference between the MBA CET and an exam such as CAT, which deducts marks for wrong answers. Because MBA CET does not, the only real cost of a question is the time it takes.
- Never leave a question blank. In the last few minutes of the exam, mark an answer for every remaining question. A guess can only help you.
- Do not get stuck. Skip a question that is eating your time and come back if time permits.
- Pick your battles. With 45 seconds per question on average, it often makes sense to spend more time on quick-scoring questions and less on lengthy puzzles.
- Practise skipping. Skipping a hard question is a skill. Build it in your mocks, not on exam day.

How to Use the MBA CET Exam Pattern in Your Preparation
Knowing the pattern is only useful if it shapes your plan. Here is how to put it to work.
- Weight your time by section. Give Logical Reasoning the largest share of your study time, because it is the largest part of the paper.
- Train for 45 seconds a question. Practise timed sets, not untimed ones. See the MBA CET 90-day preparation plan for a week-by-week schedule.
- Take sectional tests, then full mocks. Start with sectional tests to build each skill, then move to full-length MBA CET mocks to practise the whole 150 minutes.
- Build a no-negative-marking habit. Practise marking an answer for every question before time runs out.
- Analyse every mock. Find out which section and which question types cost you the most time and marks.
